
American violist Alyssa Warcup recently earned her Master of Music degree at the Curtis Institute of Music where she held the Edward Montgomery Fellowship. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her mentors included Hsin-Yun Huang, Misha Amory, Roberto Díaz, Jeffrey Irvine, and Lynne Ramsey. Originally from the Chicago area, Alyssa began her viola studies at age twelve. She was featured in an episode of On Stage at Curtis produced by PBS WHYY, released in 2025 as part of their nineteenth season.
Alyssa made her solo debut performing the Schnittke Viola Concerto with the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra. She has won first prize in several competitions, including the National Federation of Music Clubs Biennial Collegiate Viola Competition and Wendell Irish Viola Award, as well as the Cleveland Institute of Music Concerto Competition. She is the recipient of the inaugural Howard E. Leisinger Viola Prize from the Tuesday Musical Association.
In spring 2025, Alyssa joined Curtis on Tour for chamber music performances in the Philharmonie Berlin, Die Glocke, Fundación Juan March, and Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. She has performed as soloist and chamber musician at festivals including the International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove, Gstaad String Academy, Taipei Music Academy, Fontainebleau Schools, National Arts Centre Young Artists Program, Heifetz International Music Institute, and National YoungArts Foundation. An avid orchestral musician, she was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and Aspen Music Festival, and performs as a substitute with the National Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra.
Alyssa is passionate about outreach, regularly performing with ensembles in hospitals, nursing homes, libraries, and museums. She has performed with the Cleveland chapter of Music for Food, a musician-led initiative to fight hunger in local communities.
